This post is also for coursework.

So, I have a listing on birdbreeders.com. It was a basic free listing for a long time and it had all of my info on it. It showed my phone number, my location, the species I breed, a small bio, my website, pictures, my ratings, and more. Well, I went on there to change a few things about a week ago and I was surprised to see that they had downsized. They changed the format for the free listings so that they only showed aviary name, location, phone number and ratings. No website, no email, nothing else….I was very upset and I posted my disappointment on their forums. The premium listings cost a good chunk of money, money that I simply do not have. I have always supported this site in many ways. I used it myself to find breeders of birds who had been found or when searching for band codes (the number on the leg bands birds can have). I recommended this site for anyone looking for a breeder in their area. So you can understand I was very upset when they limited my listing to the point where no one could even contact me (since I didn’t want my phone number listed any longer).

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my email box yesterday to see that I had an email from the administer from the site. I was a little nervous, thinking I had done something wrong and they were going to end my listing completely, but when I opened it, it was good news! They decided to upgrade my listing to a premium listing for 2 months- for free! This is because when they had done a search for “birdbreeders.com”, they had found many posts I had made on different forums suggesting the site.

I have to say that if I did not already think highly of this site, I do for sure now! They really made my day!

So check out my new “Premium” listing!

This Blog was created for 2 reasons.

1) To inform my customers and anyone interested in my aviary of news regarding my birds, new products, stories from the bird room, and the breeding status of my pairs. And

2) To fulfill a requirement in my course at BSU (Weblogs and Wikis).

What does this mean? This means that I will occasionally have content regarding my class per required by assignment.

So on with the post!!!

In “The Everything Blogging Blook” by Aliza Sherman Risdahl, Risdahl says that bloggers have no obligation to be honest. Well, of course that is true. I try to take many things I read on the internet with a grain of salt. When doing any sort of research online, I always use as many sources as possible and compare the content. I try to use respected sources that can give credentials.

My blog is not meant to be used as a reference for bird care, breeding birds or anything else. My posts are solely my opinion and everything is based on my experiences.

If you have any questions or comments on any content on my blog or website, please feel free to email me or post a comment.

About My Aviary

BareFoot Aviary is a small home-based aviary in Bemidji, MN. We only breed a small amount of birds with only one or two clutches at a time to ensure our babies are sweet and well socialized. We breed Peachfaced Lovebirds and Pacific Parrotlets, and hopefully will be breeding Black Headed Caiques soon!
